IMEM was created in Odessa National University (ONU) in 10.03.94 on the basis of mechanics and mathematics faculty by authority of Ministry of Education of Ukraine. The director of IMEM - professor, the Candidate of physics and mathematics, Kruglov Victor Eugenievytch, works as a head starting with creation of IMEM.

Kamenskaya Natalya Leonidovna, the associate professor, the Candidate of Psychology
IMEM consists of: the mathematics faculty, the applied mathematics and mechanics faculty; the processing technology faculty, the economics faculty,
the faculty of business and management, the faculty of psycology, operated by 14 chairs, and research laboratory of computation, wich consists of five computer classrooms.
165 lecturers, besides lecturers of other faculties, provide the academic activity at IMEM. There are: 23 Doctors of Science, professors, 90 Candidates of Science, associated professors. 48 persons of supporting cast work at IMEM as well.
There are such specialities as mathematics, computing system and network, management of organisations, psycology at corresponding department.
There are over 1500 students at day-department and about 300 - at corresponding.
There is a postgraduate education at each chair.
The 4-years training plan for bachelors of mathematics was put in at IMEM in Ukraine in 1991 ( before it was mechanics and mathematics faculty ), and the 2-years training plan for masters of mathematics was in 1995.
The students of IMEM have been taking part in International Students’ Olympics since 2001. During this period of time they have won the Grand Prix, 5 first degree diplomas, 5 second degree diplomas, 6 third degree diplomas and 4 rewarding diplomas.
The success of IMEM students was granted with name scolarships time and again: named after A.M. Lyapunov – in mathematics, S.Y. Vitte – in economics, M.M. Lange – in psycology. The Ukrainian Presidential Scholars in different periods of time were: Saprykyn S., Kishubayev T., Metelitchenko O (twice), Bilozerova M. The Scholarship of Verkhovna Rada was handed to: Yakimtchuk O., Kirdoglo D., Kerekesh D., Maloksiano M. (twice), Kusik L., Kharkov V., Plotnikova N., Berkovytch E.
The students were also granted with national rewards. The student of the applied mathematics faculty was rewarded with “For work and victory” medal at the 8th International Mathematics’ Olympics in 2001. The student of the applied mathematics and mechanics faculty, Popov P.G. have earned a honorific mention and premium of Odessa region governor for high educational and scientific achievements in 2004.
Kharkov V. have earned the Cabinet Council Honorific Mention for active scientific work and victories at International olympics. Levdikova N. and Tkatchenko G. are the scholars of intellectual collaboration fund “Ukraine – 21 century, besides Levdikova N. became the winner of “Intellectual Of 21 century” Student Games and laureate of Ukrainian President Grant in 2003. The students’ works of Plotnikova N. (mathematics) and Tchiong Tchi Kong (economics) have won the first degree diplomas of National Academy of Sciences.
The programmers students team have won the first prize at prestigious Ukraine Cup Tournament in programming between students teams in 2004.
The student Adamo O. as a member of all-Ukrainian has won 6th personal prize at International Students Olympics at mathematics in Iran.
The students of applied mathematics and mechanics faculty take part at International olympics in programming (Bucharest, Rumania) which is conducted by Association of Computer Machinery (ACM).
The student of applied mathematics and mechanics faculty, Obuchov P.G. has won the first prize at the All Ukrainian olympics in informatics (Ternopol) in 2004.
All Ukrainian regions competitions in programming (Zaporozhye) always bring the victory to the IMEM programmers team. For example, 3 IMEM teams have won 1st, 2nd and 4th prizes in these competitons in 2003.
The IMEM programmers team in the staff of Obuchov P.G., Kudim K.O, Tintilov D.A, Antontchenko P.S. has won the Champions Of Ukraine rank in programming and received the Cup of Ukraine in August 2004. The IMEM psycology-students publish their own “Psy-Factor”, which edits the facts from students life. IMEM has close relations with modern computer offices to train the specialists and prepare scientific students works. The “Computer Systems” company awards 5 grants for scientific and applied researches to IMEM students according to the results of the scientific conference every year. The grants are awarded for the students scientific works of all departments who relate to programm support and computing technologies.
Plenty of students works are made in collaboration with other faculties. For example, the student of information technology faculty Budancev A.O. together with professors of management faculty has invented the programm complex for computer testing and received CSA Software Award 2003-2004 for this elaboration.
IMEM carried out some programms within the Tempus-Tacic projects within the high economical education reform in ONU (1994-1998), the improvement of ONU ability to receive financing from outside stocks (199701998), spreading of innovatory practics of educational
pans elaboration and providing the good quality of professors staff retraining and students training (1999-2001), young professors training in economic and management specialities (2001-2004)
